Here's to John Owen (1616-1624)...
Perhaps the weightest Puritan Theologian of all time ( maaaaaybe Edwards could contend).
If you've never heard of him, or never read anything by him..I beg you to give his old English a chance (or pick up an abridged copy) and deeply devour this meaty material..
"A minister may fill his pews, his communion roll, the mouths of the public, but what that minister is on his knees in secret before God Almighty, that he is and no more."
His stand for orthodoxy is comparable to Athanasius. His influence marks many theologians from CH Spurgeon to John Piper.. He has authored over 80 works.. most of which are available online.. Some of his most famous include: The Death of Death in the Death of Christ, The Mortification of Sin, The Spirit and the Church, Communion with God, his incredible commentary on Hebrews and volumes and volumes of sermons.
