canoe trip 2012

It's the day after I've returned from my 4th annual canoe trip with my high school leadership kids. It is my most beloved of the hated trips all at once.
It is a 3 hour drive to the desert followed by camping in a mosquito's nest, and all that camping entails and then waking up to canoe 20 miles camp another night and do it again...all to end in hot, middle-of-nowhere Martinez Lake and drive 4 hours home.
There are no showers. No cell reception. No electricity. And no quitting.
it's really quite awesome. and every single year surprises me. I never actually have the advantage of experience because it is always new!
I get to see the kids overcome and hang out with them with less distractions. I get to be surrounded by God's beautiful creation. I get a tan. But mostly I learn something new about myself every year.
Lessons learned in a canoe..

YEAR ONE:
-you can do anything you put your mind to.
- i am motivated by ice cream
-singing really does make everything fun and better

 YEAR TWO:
-the definition of fellowship
 -humility -the importance of cooking
- quitting is not an option
-God wants to use me!

 YEAR THREE:
- everything is easier when you like the person you're with.
 - I am such a chick.
- mosquitos will probably be used in hell as torture devices
- always look both ways for rattlesnakes when hiking

 YEAR FOUR:
- i need to give in and by a REAL sleeping bag.
- mosquitos can't fly in crazy wind, nor can I paddle or sleep for that matter.
- good food is worth carrying..
 - a good friend is worth more than good food or good weather or good looks.
- yoga does me good!

our group getting ready to leave the church on Friday!
Can you believe it was only 74 degree in El Centro? I'm eating and ice cream and it isn't melting on me!
The accomplished group, two days and 33 miles later!
bromance? favorites!
desert sunset on a long ride home... complete with bugs on wind shield ;) ...until next time..ha.
