If you know me, you know I belong to the Lord.
If you don't know me very well, you think I've "got it all together (and at such a young age too!)"
But let's be real, if they made something like a mood ring for my motives, you'd be shocked at my constant selfishness. If every word I ever said, were recorded; every eye-roll or indifferent attitude in the things that God Himself has called me to were visible before your eyes, you'd tend to wish you didn't know me. I am not just being hard on myself. I'm not a Bridget Jones that needs you to "love me as I am".. I am a sinner, who desperately needs a Savior, not just a one time deal. I need to meet Him at the cross every day that He might be imprinted on my personality and keep me in check moment by moment. Christians, in fact, do not have it all together... we're sinners!
We are constant failures. Always looking for love in all the wrong places. Never without selfish ambition, rarely displaying the love that Christ calls us to and continuing to make it "all about me", even in repentance!
This is why remembering the cross is so important-- because it is for sinners. It forces us to acknowledge our sin, repent with a broken heart and still escape condemnation, legalism and rather embrace the comfort of that deep Fatherly love.
Communion is humbling, precious and refreshing because it brings us face to face with Christ on the cross who is the measure of perfection and the acting party of the deepest love! It's here in honest communion with the Lord that we learn brokenness over sin, that we learn godly repentance. It is here that we're met by the kindness of our Savior in simply juice and crackers. This table of remembrance should still us and allow us to hear the small, gentle voice of the Savior that died for us while we were dead in our trespasses. In communion, we can see the beauty of the deathly cross restore the joy of our salvation and motivate us to actually love Him back.
It continually surpasses my expectations and meets my needs on every level. How incredible to belong to Christ!
I love you Malia.
