Feminine Appeal by Carolyn Mahaney is a MUST read. That is pretty much my thought..
This Bible-infatuated book is centered on Biblical womanhood as promoted by Titus 2. This is by far the best "woman book" I've ever beheld. Each page convicting, exciting and encouraging.
Now, I am no wife and no mother but I was blessed to hear the admonitions of a more seasoned lady who is passionate about the Gospel. Pretty much, if you're a woman and you're pursuing a Gospel-centered life then this book is for YOU. It is applicable, easy to read and always, always, always seeks to provoke a deeper love for Christ!
I recently recommended it to a few friends. Some had apprehensions about reading a book primarily concerned with serving husbands and rearing children, but to their great surprise they also agreed with me that it is an incredible display of what exactly is appealing in Biblical womanhood. It highlights practical opportunities to live out deep theological truths in every scenario from singleness and self-control to really loving your husband and communicating the Gospel to your children.
Here's a small taste...
"We can either resent the challenges and demands that accompany motherhood and persist in our selfishness, or we can draw from God's grace and receive His help to cheerfully lay down our lives for our children... The world may not applaud us for wiping runny noses, driving in carpools, or talking with our teenager into the wee hours of the morning. And until they are trained, our children might not thank us either. But as we set aside our own selfish desires and glorify God by joyfully serving our children, we are pursuing true greatness according to the Bible. Let us do so with tenderness, affection, and with a smile! But what if you've lost your smile? How do you find renewed joy to sacrificially serve and tenderly love your children? Our only genuine source of refreshment comes from God. In Him alone do we acquire fresh strength to carry out this enormous task of mothering."( Feminine Appeal, pg 53)And here is where you can order your very own copy to cherish and study and lend to others!
